SANDING
Wood floor sanding is a process that removes the current finish as well as surface marks and dents, to expose the bare wood.
Gaps between floorboards can be filled with wooden fillets or flexible fillers, while holes and deeper dents are repaired as needed. The floor is then sanded to achieve a smooth surface, making it ready for finishing.
REPAIRS
Board replacement and repair work is a routine part of many wood floor restoration projects, regardless of the floor’s age.
Over time, boards may be removed by plumbers or electricians, sometimes without careful handling! This situation is common with original pine floorboards but can also occur with modern wood flooring. Prior to commencing any sanding, we inspect and identify any potential damage and consult with our clients before replacing any boards. When boards get removed, we carefully assess the condition of the floor joists, checking for indications of live woodworm, dampness, or rot.
With our experience, we are well-equipped to address any issues that may arise and provide expert advice regarding essential repair work. Don’t be worried about this step, sometimes we refurbish floors that don’t need a single repair!
FINISHING
After the wood floor has been sanded, the final step is to apply the finish.
This process typically begins on the first day of the project, during which the desired colour or effect is discussed, and samples are provided by the end of the day. The finishing process is not rushed, and we go to great efforts to ensure that the preferred result is achieved.
The team has experience and training in applying a range of floor finishes, including stains, lye,
oils, and lacquers from manufacturers such as Bona, Treatex, Osmo, and Morrells (to name a few). Various colour and sheen options are available to meet specific preferences. We pride ourselves in working closely with our clients to provide a result tailored to their needs.
